Link made between cannabis psychosis and young people

Herald Globe Thursday 11th September, 2008

A group of researchers from Spain has found a strong link between the onset of adolescent psychosis and cannabis use.

The medical team has said the results can not be explained by chance, related to gender or the use of other drugs.

It is purely related to the amount of cannabis used.

Dr. Ana Gonzalez-Pinto from Santiago Apostol Hospital in Vitoria, has written of the clinical importance of the study and has said the estimates of the attributable risk has almost proven that the use of cannabis accounts for about 10 percent of cases of psychosis.

The findings are based on 131 patients who needed inpatient care for a first psychotic episode during a 2-year period.

Gonzalez-Pinto and her colleagues concluded the results pointed to cannabis as a dangerous drug in young people at risk of developing psychosis.

Our nuclear programmes are completely transparent. The sanctions are unfair, the Iranian people are suffering, and our (nuclear) activities are legal. These sanctions are illegal and only benefit Israel.
