According to a new study by researchers at the University of Colorado and the University of Haifa, when couples held hands, their brain waves synchronized and relieved their pain.
New York, NY (Merxwire) - The epidemic continues to affect people's lives. To reduce the discomfort caused by Omicron, many infected people will prepare painkillers at home, but don't think that you can only rely on medicines to relieve pain. According to scientific research, two people in love can be activated by holding hands to Factors in the brain that reduce pain perception!
Humans are social animals and cannot live in isolation since ancient times. This experimental research report published in PAIN said that the company of a romantic partner could relieve pain and have power. Holding hands with supportive touch can effectively reduce pain signals in women's brains.
The research team took 22 heterosexual couples between the ages of 23 and 32 and divided them into three groups. One group sat together and held hands, the other group sat together but did not hold hands, and the last group was surrounded by sat in separate rooms. In the experiment, the wife was subjected to mild pain in her arm, and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was used to assess changes in brain activity.
Scientists applied a slight heat pain to the arms of 22 pairs of heterosexual wives to produce pain and observed the electroencephalogram (EEG) of both spouses through brain waves. The results of the study found that even if there is no contact between the husband and wife, as long as they are by each other's side, the wife may feel pleasure from the physical touch or empathy of holding hands, which activates the reward area of the brain and relieves pain.
The magical effect brought by holding hands, the research team believes that the main reason is "stress relief." Generally speaking, people will amplify their painful feelings under pressure, and touching or accompanying a loved one will have a relaxing effect and reduce stress, also relieving the pain of those who suffer.
Another interesting finding from the experiment is that with or without holding hands, as long as couples sit close to each other, they will have a "brain wave synchronization" condition. If they are holding hands, the Brainwave synchronization will be more robust. Because "empathy" allows the companion to generate the same brain waves as the pain sufferer, scientists believe this is one of the critical reasons for pain relief.
Of course, pain is a subjective feeling, and everyone's pain tolerance is different. And when pain occurs, it may represent an urgent message from the body, especially if the pain persists, it cannot be ignored, and medical treatment must be seriously considered.
