Pitt quarterback Kedon Slovis entered the transfer portal Monday, according to multiple reports.
Just a few hours later, the Panthers had his replacement lined up. According to ESPN and multiple local outlets in Pittsburgh, Boston College transfer Phil Jurkovec has committed to Pitt for next season.
Slovis played one season for Pitt after transferring from Southern California. He completed 58.4 percent of his passes for 2,397 yards with 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 11 games this season for the Panthers (8-4).
Slovis has passed for 9,973 yards with 68 touchdowns and 33 interceptions in 32 games with the Trojans (2019-21) and Panthers. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native was the 2019 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and a 2020 first-team All-Pac-12 selection at USC.
For Jurkovec, transferring to Pitt is a homecoming. He was born there and played at Pine-Richland High School -- less than 25 miles north of where the Panthers play at Acrisure Stadium.
Jurkovec began his collegiate career at Notre Dame, where he played in just eight games over two seasons.
He landed at Boston College in 2020 and became the starter, completing 61 percent of his passes in 10 games and throwing for 2,558 yards and 17 touchdowns. He battled injuries the past two seasons, but threw 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions across 14 games during that stretch. Jurkovec has also rushed for 568 yards and nine TDs.
At Pitt, Jurkovec reunites with Frank Cignetti Jr., who was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Boston College in 2020 and 2021 before taking the same position with the Panthers this season.
With Slovis transferring and Jurkovec not yet eligible to play, Pitt will likely have to turn to veteran backup Nick Patti in its Sun Bowl matchup with UCLA.
Patti started in Pitt's Peach Bowl loss to Michigan State last season after Kenny Pickett declared for the NFL Draft. He completed 9 of 20 passes with one touchdown against Tennessee earlier this season.
