The Tampa Bay Rays placed right-hander Calvin Faucher on the 15-day injured list Wednesday and recalled right-hander Luis Patino from Triple-A Durham.
Faucher's move to the IL, retroactive to Tuesday, is due to right elbow inflammation. The 27-year-old is 1-1 with a 5.21 ERA in 13 appearances (four starts) and is 3-4 with a 5.36 ERA in 35 appearances (four starts) over the past two seasons for Tampa Bay.
Patino, 23, has yet to appear in the major leagues this season, while going 3-3 with a 7.64 ERA in 16 appearances (six starts) for Durham. In 36 appearances (22 starts) for the San Diego Padres and Rays over the past three seasons, Patino is 7-5 with a 5.10 ERA.
While the Rays have a baseball-best 44-19 record heading into play Wednesday, their bullpen is merely 22nd in the major leagues with a 4.29 ERA.
