New Delhi [India], June 24 (ANI): Foreign Affairs Expert Robinder Sachdev on Tuesday said that US President Donald Trump's announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran was unexpected but wise, as it could help avoid further conflict and economic fallout.
He added that the move may help control rising oil prices and inflation in the US, and could open the door to lasting peace in the Middle East.
Speaking to ANI, Robinder Sachdev said, 'What he has done is unexpected... He took a wise step to stop or pause the war... Going ahead would have resulted in some casualties in Israel, but also in oil prices going up and inflation that Trump wants to keep low in America, because the trade tariffs he is imposing on various countries they are going to cause inflation in America... It is a good sign and there could be a chance of enduring peace in the Middle East... The ceasefire that Trump announced via social media is supposed to take effect after 6 hours... Probably we will see that Iran and Israel will stop attacking each other...'
Sachdev said Iran's reported attack on a US military base in Qatar will become a case study in deception and diplomacy. He also noted that Arab nations offered limited criticism of Israel, balancing public sentiment with diplomatic strategy.
'I think Iran's attack on the US military base in Qatar will become a case study of deception, diplomacy... Apparently, a deal was worked out between America, Qatar and Iran brokered by Qatar MEA... Within 24 hours, all accusations may start lowering down... All Arab countries were to some extent doing lip service, blaming Israel... because they know that all these countries have pro-Palestine sentiment. This would have added one more element of the Islamic world being hurt by Israel and America,' Sachdev said.
United States President Donald Trump announced on Monday (local time) what he described as a 'complete and total' ceasefire between Israel and Iran, stating that it would take effect in approximately six hours.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the ceasefire has been jointly agreed upon by both nations and would mark a significant de-escalation in hostilities that have gripped the region. (ANI)
