Joel Hanley broke a third-period tie with his first goal of the season and Nazem Kadri collected one goal and one assist to lead the host Calgary Flames to a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Sunday.
Kevin Rooney also scored for the Flames, who are one point outside of a Western Conference wild-card spot. Goaltender Dustin Wolf made 27 saves.
Tyler Toffoli posted one goal and one assist and Macklin Celebrini tallied for the slumping Sharks, who are winless in five games (0-4-1) and have only one victory in their last 12 outings (1-10-1).Goalie Alexandar Georgiev stopped 33 shots.
With overtime on the horizon, Hanley broke a 2-2 tie at 13:28 of the third period with his first goal since March 23, 2024. He jumped down from his point position during a flurry and was fed a pass from Jonathan Huberdeau in the slot, lifting a wrist shot to earn his first career game-winning goal.
In the first game back for both teams since the 4 Nations Face-Off break, both clubs surrendered a lead in a back-and-forth affair that saw plenty of chances at both ends.
Celebrini, the top pick from last summer's draft, opened the scoring at 3:41. He drove to the net untouched and made no mistake from the doorstep when set up by Toffoli.
Kadri pulled the Flames even on the power play at 7:27 of the opening frame when he found the mark for his 20th goal of the season. It marks the fourth consecutive season and seventh time he has reached that milestone.
Kadri increased his point streak to six games in which he has collected three goals and eight points. With an assist on the goal, MacKenzie Weegar has collected seven points in a six-game run.
Rooney gave the Flames a lead at 3:35 of the second when he pounced on a loose puck and chipped it into the net on the rebound chance to snap a 23-game drought.
However, Toffoli drew the Sharks even when he found the mark on his own rebound attempt at 1:54 of the third. Toffoli extended his point streak to six games, in which he has netted four goals and eight points.
Sharks defenseman Timothy Liljegren left at the midway point and did not return.
