Lucas Raymond had a pair of goals, including the go-ahead score for his 100th career goal, and the host Detroit Red Wings notched a 6-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.
Raymond's milestone goal snapped a 3-all tie.
Patrick Kane had a goal and two assists for the Red Wings. Marco Kasper, Simon Edvinsson and Andrew Copp also scored, while rookie Emmitt Finnie achieved his first career point in his second game with an assist on Raymond's first goal. Alex DeBrincat added three assists.
Cam Talbot made 20 saves and also collected an assist on Edvinsson's empty-netter.
Nicolas Roy, Calle Jarnkrok and Maxi Domi scored for the Maple Leafs, while Anthony Stolarz made 29 saves.
Toronto opened its season on Wednesday with a 5-2 victory over Montreal. Detroit lost to the Canadiens 5-1 the following evening. The Leafs and Wings will hold a rematch in Toronto on Monday afternoon.
The Red Wings outshot the Leafs 13-8 in the first 20 minutes, but Toronto emerged with a 2-0 advantage.
Toronto took the lead at 2:27 of the period. Chris Tanev took a shot from the point and Talbot made a pad save. Roy collected the rebound and tipped it to Jarnkrok, who jammed the puck into the open net.
The Maple Leafs extended their lead at 12:29 of the period when Roy redirected a Morgan Rielly shot from the point.
The Red Wings roared back to take a 3-2 lead in the second period.
Detroit got on the board when Kane passed the puck from the boards to Kasper, who wristed a shot past Stolarz's catching glove at 8:56 of the period.
Raymond tied it with 5:05 left in the period off Dylan Larkin's pass from the slot.
Kane scored from the right circle with 1:50 remaining in the period off a nifty pass from DeBrincat.
Domi tied it up at 3-apiece on his goal at 2:38 of the third during a 4-on-4 situation. Rielly picked up the assist.
The Wings regained the lead on a power play. Kane set up Raymond with a circle-to-circle pass.
