Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone is sidelined on a week-to-week basis with a wrist injury, head coach Bruce Cassidy told reporters Monday.
Stone, whose 13 points through six games rank second in the NHL, exited in the late stages of Vegas' 6-1 blowout win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday night.
Stone, 33, scored his first two goals of the season against Calgary as part of an explosive four-point night that raised his league-best assist total to 11.
'This year, I think he was in as good a shape as he's been since I've been here. Add another year in your career with a few bumps and bruises, you've got to take care of yourself. I thought he did a great job of that. I thought he was moving as well as he ever has,' said Cassidy, Vegas' head coach since 2022-23.
Cassidy added, 'It sucks. It really does for him. I feel for him. But he's always bounced back well. That's the good news when we do get him back. Whether that's in the short, medium or long term, we don't know yet. I'm sure he'll pick up right where he left off.'
The scorching starts of Stone and linemate Jack Eichel, whose 15 points lead the league, helped propel the Golden Knights (4-0-2) to the top of the Pacific Division standings. They host the undefeated Carolina Hurricanes on Monday, then have four nights off before traveling to face the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Hurricanes.
The oft-injured Stone hasn't played more than 70 games in a season since 2019, when Vegas acquired the right winger from the Ottawa Senators.
He's scored 110 goals and 336 points over 346 games with the Golden Knights and captained the club to its first Stanley Cup in 2023.
